چکیده

The complex exponential signal is given by x(t) = C e, (1) where C and a are, in general, complex numbers. If these are real numbers, then x(t) is called a real exponential and depending on the sign of a it can become either a growing exponential (a > 0) or a decaying exponential (a < 0). If a = 0 then x(t) is the constant C. An equally important class of complex exponential signals is obtained when a is purely imaginary. In this case, we obtain x(t) = e0. (2) An important property of this signal is that it is periodic. A class of signals closely related to the complex exponential is the sinusoidal signal x(t) = Acos(ω0t+ φ), (3) where it is common to write ω0 = 2πf0, where f0 has the units of cycles per second or Hertz (Hz). The fundamental period of the sinusoid is given by

In many control system design problems a mere change in the controller (proportional) gain cannot satisfy desired specifications. As a result controller dynamics are introduced to alter (compensate) the overall (closed-loop) system dynamics. There are two widely used techniques for dynamic compensation. Lead compensation acts mainly to lower the rise time and decrease the overshoot of a feedbac...

Analysis of mechanical systems is based on Newton’s laws of motion. Usually, ideal (or point) masses are considered in the analysis, as shown in the Figure 1. Motion is considered with respect to a non-accelerating reference frame, usually a fixed point on earth or another non-accelerating object. The equation of motion for a mass m(t) is based on Newton’s second law which expresses the conserv...

The objective of this lecture is to present some of the most fundamental elements of control loops, including open-loop and closed-loop (or feedback) control. There are two basis structures for control of dynamic systems: (a) open-loop control and (b) feedback (or closed-loop) control. These two control structures are shown in Figures 1 and 2. Let us write the equations of motion for a DC motor...

Bode Plots of First and Second Order Systems

The objective of this lecture is to provide you with some background on the use of transfer functions to perform the so-called frequency response analysis of dynamic systems, also known as analysis based on Bode plots. This method will be later used in the design of control systems.

Control-Relevant Discretization of Nonlinear Systems With Time-Delay Using Taylor-Lie Series

A new time-discretization method for the development of a sampled-data representation of a nonlinear continuous-time input-driven system with time delay is proposed. It is based on the Taylor-Lie series expansion method and zero-order hold assumption. The mathematical structure of the new discretization scheme is explored and characterized as useful for establishing concrete connections between...
